On October 24th, we met early in the morning to participate in the 5th South Carolina Robotics Invitational and Workshops (SCRIW). The students and mentors loaded up the FRC (big) robot
The invitational consisted of 20+ rounds of qualification matches to determine the top 4 teams in the competition. These teams would later get a chance to pick 3 other robot teams to make an alliance and face the other alliances in the playoffs. Although our robot finished the qualification matches in 12th place, we were selected to be part of the #4 seed alliance. Our alliance was able to win some of the playoff matches; however, our average score was not high enough to proceed to the final match and the competition was over for the four teams. Despite the sour ending, this competition was a positive experience for the students that attended. The team members were able to experience the pressure of the competition, to participate in different roles in the driving team, the set up and tear down of the pit, and most of all, the fun and excitement of the arena.
