There are less than 3 weeks left for the crowd fundraiser Midlands Gives on May 3rd. This exciting event will accept donations for 24 hours to support over 375 nonprofits in 11 counties of the Midlands, including this team!

With only 24 hours during the day to give, how can you maximize your donation without minimizing your account balance?

Midlands Gives Prizes

You can learn about the prizes that several corporations have pledged to donate during specific times or for specific categories. Some of the prizes include

  • matching donations of $100 during specific times
  • $500 awared radomly during specific times
  • $1,000 awarded to the first five organizations that get 100 gifts
  • $1,000 added to one small budget and one large budget nonprofit that has the most unique donors during different times of the day
  • $5,000 will be added to the 5,000th donation

And many others! To learn all the details on how to maximize your donation,  go to  https://midlandsgives.org/prizes and jot down the times when your donation is more likely to go further. Please spread the news on social media by using the hashtag #midlandsgives on Instagram and Twitter.

Orientation Meeting: Success!!!

Dear friends of the KC Robotics Team,

A huge THANK YOU is in order for the way that you filled up the room this past Tuesday for the Orientation Meeting. Thank you also to the parents and volunteers that brought food and drinks to feed our team members! We had over 20 students come early to watch Spare Parts and about as many parents came later to hear the details about what it takes to be part of the Robotics team. I am beyond excited with the turn out this year and we are planning some very exciting improvements to the team’s dynamics based on the number of students that showed interest.

Mr. Sullivan went over some very important information regarding the mission and operation of the team, as well as the multiple ways that students and parents can be involved. You can read all about it by clicking this link. You can view the Google Slides presentation here. One of my favorite things about the team is that the only requirement to be a member is showing up, do fun work, and passing all your classes!

A couple things to keep in mind:

  • TODAY at noon is the release of the video explaining the new FTC challenge. Take time to watch this video (multiple times, ideally) so that you can contribute some ideas on Tuesday as the FTC building season begins. The viewo will be released on this website: http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/ftc/game
  • Our next team meeting is this Tuesday 9/15 from 4 to 6 PM. We have a full agenda planned including training videos, subteam sign ups, and personalized buttons. Don’t miss it! Speaking of subteams, you can check out what we have in mind here. Start thinking about how you’d like to contribute in the team and bring suggestions if you think we need other subteams.
  • If you did not return the forms provided in the Orientation meeting, please bring them to the meeting on Tuesday. You can print your own copies here, if needed:
  • FIRST Parody – It could be fun to do a FIRST parody. Go to this website to view existing parody videos and look at contest rules. Watch at least one parody video and get the mind gears going with suggestions. Deadline for submission is November 30.
  • If you have not already, like and share our Facebook page, follow us on Twitter and Instagram (@kcroboticsteam for both) and add this website to your RSS feed so that you can keep up with everything that we do.

I think that’s all for now! I will post about the FTC release video later. See you Tuesday!

Special thanks to those of you that shared our page! We went over the 100 follower mark at the beginning of the weekend 🙂 If everybody that likes our page shared it on Facebook, we should have no problem reaching 200 followers! Do you accept the challenge?
